rs info — what is on the server

Sections of the rs info report and what to do about warnings.

rs info builds the picture of a server. One section only: rs info system | disk | ports | docker | web | services | cron.

Sections

System — OS, kernel, virtualization, CPU, memory, swap, load, IPs, time zone.

Disks — df for real file systems. A warning at 80% full, a problem from 90%. What took the space: du -xh / --max-depth=2 | sort -h | tail, for Docker — rs clean.

Listening ports — who listens and for whom:

  • "this server only" (127.0.0.1) — not reachable from outside;
  • "everyone" (0.0.0.0, [::]) — reachable from the network unless a firewall closes it. Databases must not listen like this — check with rs security.

Docker container ports show up as docker-proxy; which container publishes which port is in the Docker section.

Docker — containers by Compose project. For a project — the compose file path (its .env is next to it), for a container — image, state, ports and data directories (vol: — a named Docker volume). "Keeps restarting" — the container crashes on start: see docker logs --tail 50 <name>.

Sites — nginx configs (sites-enabled, conf.d) and their server_name, Apache virtual hosts, Caddy and RunStack sites, Let's Encrypt certificate expiry (under 14 days — a warning: certbot renew --dry-run).

Services — running systemd services except the standard Ubuntu/Debian ones, with the unit file path; failed services: systemctl status <name>.

Schedules — /etc/crontab, /etc/cron.d, user crontabs and systemd timers (except the standard ones).
